Yonex has moved away from the glossy scarlet of 2023 to a darker, sophisticated "Matte Crimson" with subtle rubberized textures. The 2026 update focuses on two main technological shifts: Aero Fin 3.0 for drag reduction and Silicone-Oil Infused Grommets for massive string snapback. We took both the VCORE 98 and VCORE 100 out for a 10-hour playtest to see if they improved on perfection.

| Feature | VCORE 98 (2026) | VCORE 100 (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Head Size | 98 sq in | 100 sq in |
| Weight | 305g | 300g |
| RA Stiffness | 62 RA (Soft) | 65 RA (Crisp) |
| Best For | Precision & Connectivity | Power & Forgiveness |
The wait is finally over. The "Red Flag" of the tennis world has been updated. On January 9th 2026, Yonex dropped the highly anticipated 2026 VCORE line, continuing their three-year cycle of refining one of the most popular spin racquets on tour.
We took both the VCORE 98 and the VCORE 100 out on the court for a 10-hour playtest to answer the big question: Is this just a fresh paint job, or have Yonex actually improved on perfection? Here is our full breakdown.
Visually, the racquet is stunning. Yonex has moved away from the glossy scarlet of 2023 to a darker, sophisticated "Matte Crimson" with subtle rubberized textures near the throat. But you don't buy a racquet for the paint; you buy it for the performance.
The 2026 update focuses on two main technological shifts:
Aero Fin 3.0 (Drag Reduction): You’ll notice the grooves at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions are deeper than the previous generation. Yonex claims this reduces air resistance by 3% during the swing. While that sounds small, on a kick serve, you can genuinely feel the racquet head whipping through the air faster.
Silicone-Oil Infused Grommets: This is the big game-changer. The grommets at the top of the hoop are infused with a silicone lubricant to promote Snapback Physics. The strings slide and snap back into position violently upon contact, imparting massive RPMs on the ball.
The Playtest: The 98 has always been the choice for players like Denis Shapovalov—aggressive baseliners who need control. The 2026 model feels slightly plushier than the 2023 version. The RA Stiffness rating has dropped slightly, giving it a more "connected" feel similar to the Wilson Blade 98.
Groundstrokes: The launch angle is high. Even if you aim low over the net, the spin pulls the ball down sharply into the court. It feels incredibly safe to swing out 100%.
Serves: This is where the 98 shines. The aerodynamic improvements make it a weapon for kick serves. We found it effortless to get the ball jumping above shoulder height on the ad-court.
Volleys: It’s stable, but not a brick wall. You need to punch your volleys with the 98; it won't do the work for you like the EZONE line might.
Best For: Advanced players (NTRP 4.0+) who generate their own pace and want to dictate points with precision.
The Playtest: If the 98 is a scalpel, the 100 is a sledgehammer. This frame offers easy access to power and is significantly more forgiving than its smaller brother, competing directly with the Babolat Pure Aero.
Groundstrokes: "Free Points." That is the phrase of the playtest. You can be on the back foot, flick your wrist, and the VCORE 100 will send the ball deep with pace. It is addictive to hit with.
Defense: The 100 sq. in. Isometric head shape feels massive. Off-center shots that usually land in the net tend to sneak over with this frame.
Control: This is the trade-off. If you flatten out your stroke, the ball can fly. This racquet demands that you use topspin to control the power.
Best For: Intermediate to Advanced players (NTRP 3.0 - 4.5) looking for help with depth and massive spin potential.
| Model | Avg RPM (Forehand) | String Movement |
|---|---|---|
| VCORE 98 | 2,850 RPM | High |
| VCORE 100 | 3,100 RPM | Very High |
| Pure Aero 98 | 2,900 RPM | High |
There is one downside to the new "Silicone Grommet" technology. Because the strings move so much to generate spin, this racquet eats strings.
During our playtest with a soft poly, we noticed a significant tension drop after just 6 hours of hitting. When the tension drops on a powerful frame like the VCORE 100, the ball starts flying long, and you lose confidence.
How to manage this:
💡 Pro Tip: Don't guess when your strings are dead. Use the AceIQ Gear Tracker (available in the free app). Log your string date, and our AI will calculate your tension loss based on how many matches you play.
Yonex hasn't reinvented the wheel, but they have made it roll faster. If you are currently using the 2021 VCORE or older, the 2026 VCORE is a must-upgrade. The aerodynamic improvements are noticeable, and the feel is much improved.
Choose the 98 if you have a full, fast swing and value precision. Choose the 100 if you want to bully your opponent with heavy, deep topspin balls.
